Winter warmer on Hound Tor, Dartmoor

Climbing on the cold but grippy granite of Hound Tor, Dartmoor This week end I had a day out climbing with Simon and Liz, after a summer working towards their summer ML up North, they had travelled down to Devon and Cornwall for a bit of sightseeing and for Simon to undertake his SPA training. After this was done they were keen for a bit of a fun day out on the moors. Liz who had only climbed indoors was keen to see “what it was all about” and look at the process of leading and setting up belays,...

Burington Combe, Charity Abseil

The weather seems to have turned “proper cold” down here now with most activities needing a nice warm pair of gloves and today was no exception. Tony Finnis who organized the event, was hoping to raise some money for charity and have a fun day out for all his staff at Butterflies Day Nurseries and it was a real success. As is the norm with people doing things for charity, they had signed themselves up to do something they are absolutely terrified of, but it was a 100% success with everyone having a go and completing the abseil. Early season Ski Touring at Flaine/Les Carroz

Back out on the skis today, for a social half day tour at the great early season venue of Flaine. We’ve had some great weather out here in the Alps this weekend, and people have been out enjoying it. My legs are feeling a little rusty...

It's that time of year.... the summer isn't far away and it's worth thinking about summer alpine plans early. Booking guides and huts are worth doing in advance! And that isn't a marketing ploy by the way :)
This year we have a few trips scheduled, including Mont Blanc (3 trips), Matterhorn and some lesser known peaks like the Domes du Miage.
Have a browse of the scheduled trips page - and give us a bell if you'd like to arrange a trip on different dates, we have a list of people who'd like to share some guided climbing adventures.

Another day of laps in the trees. Low angled slopes avoiding the avi hazard and trying to keep out of the wind. Pretty wild weather at the moment.
