Some good snow at Grand Montet – Chamonix Ski Conditions

Had a nice hack about at Grand Montet this morning. Pretty much skied out, as expected after a weekend of fresh snow. Fresh tracks don’t last long at Grand Montet, no matter what the visibility. We still found some nice snow though, mostly off the Bochard lift, and a good run down couloir Philipe from the Lognon to the Pierre Ric piste. We could see folk breaking trail to the Col du Passon. There was a pretty long queue for the top lift, the rest of the lifts were quiet this morning. Lot’s of folk heading up the midi...

It’s spring in Chamonix – Marbrees Couloir and Aiguille de Belvedere

It really does feel like spring here in Chamonix. A lot of the snow has gone from low altitudes, especially on the south facing slopes. After the ski touring of last week it’s been a good contrast over the last couple of days to be out skiing steeps off the lifts. I’ve been doing some more aspirant guiding days, this time with Neil Mcnab and Simon Abrahams. Neil has a group of pretty handy snow boarders who are in Chamonix for a week riding, on “steeps”. Monday we headed to Italy up up the Helbronner lift to access the...

Pointe Ronde – Day touring near Chamonix

It’s fantastic stable weather here in Chamonix at the moment, and although the sun is blasting the snow there is still some good snow in the shade, and fresh tracks to be had if your prepared to put the effort in to get there. Over the col du Forclaz in Switzerland there’s a few good ski tours. The Pointe Ronde is a bit of a climb from the road at 1545m but the north facing valley is a great ski at the top after a scenic...

Dawn Patrol – Grand Montet

It’s good to give the legs and lungs a bit of a workout sometimes. It was pretty hard pack in places today, could have done my with coutou (ski crampons) but managed OK. Fantastic ski down off piste where it was good and on groomed runs where it wasn’t. The snow is surprisingly good on the north side of Grand Montet, well hammered by skiers but nice and...

It's that time of year.... the summer isn't far away and it's worth thinking about summer alpine plans early. Booking guides and huts are worth doing in advance! And that isn't a marketing ploy by the way :)
This year we have a few trips scheduled, including Mont Blanc (3 trips), Matterhorn and some lesser known peaks like the Domes du Miage.
Have a browse of the scheduled trips page - and give us a bell if you'd like to arrange a trip on different dates, we have a list of people who'd like to share some guided climbing adventures.

Another day of laps in the trees. Low angled slopes avoiding the avi hazard and trying to keep out of the wind. Pretty wild weather at the moment.
