A bit warmer, but great ski conditions around Chamonix

Had a great morning ski tour today above Vallocine in the Chamonix valley. Plenty of untracked snow, and some trees to dodge. The Loriaz refuge is fully functioning, so there’s refreshment mid tour if you wish. Some avalanche hazard up high still, but if you pick you venue there’s good snow to be skied. A perfect day’s Ski Touring around Les Houches – Chamonix

I love travelling and skiing to new places, but there’s something very satisfying about skiing on the local hill, especially if it’s quiet and the snow is as good as it is right now. The avalanche hazard is rather high at the moment, with the potential of some big avalanches at altitude, so staying low and keeping on relatively low angled slopes is the way forward at the moment. Grivel Haute Route Crampons – Gear Review

I wrote this short review for the Facewest team – but I like these crampons so much I thought I’d include the review here. The Grivel Haute route crampons are a fantastic compromise between lightness and strength. The steel front section fits a ski boot extremely well and are tough enough to climb hard neve or short icy sections. For me, this added strength is worth sacrificing some weight for.
