A long day out – traverse of Mont Buet

One fifteen minute coffee stop and three five minute snack breaks were the total number of rest stops during the two thousand meter ascent of the Grand Paradiso this Monday. One of the best ski weeks ever :)

A day off today, and a day off from skiing completely. Which is hard when the sun is shining and the snow is deep, but I’m warding off the man flu before more fun in the snow later this week. It’s been an amazing few days here in the Chamonix valley. The snow has been falling hard and the off piste has been getting topped up every day with light fluffy powder. Classic from-the-car ski touring

There is something very satisfying about putting the skins on the skis at the roadside, and touring up into the mountains away from the resort. It’s traditional, pure, or whatever you want to call it. You have to “earn your turns”, find the way and plan the route for the day.
