Aiguilles Marbrées – PD

Route:

Aiguilles Marbrées – Punta Helbronner - Italy

Category:

Mountaineering

Route Gallery:

Route description:

A fine rocky scramble on the Italian side of the Vallee blanche, accessed from the Helbronner lift.

This route varies in difficulty depending on the snow cover, but normally involves both snowy aretes and rock scrambles. By sticking to the crest, some short pitches are encountered, but these can often be bypassed on the south side.

The ridge can be traversed in either direction, but we prefer N – S. This means doing some of the more trickier pitches in the ascent, and an abseil to regain the glacier at the end of the ridge.

Required experience/skill level:

Beginner – Intermediate. Experience of crampons and scrambling required.

Length (in metres):

200m

Time/duration:

1 day

Starting point/base:

Chamonix - Courmayeur

Maximum guide ratio:

1:2

Normal season:

March – November. A very reliable route conditions wise.

Comments/notes:

A very accessible route, around thirty minutes walk from the Helbronner lift. It makes a very good half day route, ideal for acclimatisation and training.

A coffee at the Torino refuge after the climb is mandatory.

Summit selfie on the Domes du Miage this morning.
A great trip from the Conscrits Refuge and a ski all the way down to the valley floor.
