Les Gaillands Rock Climbing area – Chamonix

Route description:

The friendliest rock climbing crag in the Chamonix valley, with a large number of rock climbs both single and multi pitch.

The climbs are all bolted and south facing so therefore dry quickly after rain. There are also a large number of very easy climbs that are suitable for “big boot” climbing whatever the weather. It can get hot and busy in mid summer, although there are some shady spots on the harder climbs.

In short, a great training venue, and one that we use regularly on all our trips, especially as there's a good cafe in the car park!

Summit of the #Eiger this morning with Sarah.

Good conditions on the south ridge from the Monchjoch Hut, and we had the top to ourselves. Being patient with the weather paid off in the end. ☀️

Lots of teams on the other nearby classics: Monch, Jungfrau, Fisherhorn etc

Eiger plans on hold for 24 hours. Waiting for the snow to burn off a bit. Instead we traversed the Monch, via a verglas encrusted SW ridge.

Now resting before tomorrow’s early start for the Eiger south ridge.

Our #MontBlanc team were successful on the Grand Paradiso yesterday. Currently on route back to Chamonix.
