Via corda - Rochers des Mottets - Chamonix
A long scramble and climb from the valley floor finishing at a small cafe (Buvette) with fantastic views of the Mer du Glace and the Dru.
A long climb of almost 600m, with sections of walking, scrambling and harder pitches of climbing.
The rock is very slabby in nature, so dry conditions are important. The bolts are also well spaced, so although the climbing is generally straightforward, a slip would potentially have big consequences for the leader.
A fifteen minute approach and around a 45 minute descent after the climb. If the Buvette is open – try the “Tarte Mertille”
Required experience/skill level:
Beginner – Intermediate. A head for heights and previous rock climbing experience desirable.
Length (in metres):
Chamonix – Les Praz
Maximum guide ratio:
May – November. Dry conditions needed. Lots of alternative venues nearby.
Links/ featured courses:
For a first time multi-pitch experience the Via Corda is quite committing, so starting off at Les Gaillands is a good option.
