Ski Mountaineering – Zermatt 4000’s…

This classic ski tour across the Zermatt – Monte Rosa skyline is perfect for the peak bagging ski mountaineer.

There are lots of opportunities to climb different peaks, depending on weather and conditions, as well as our energy levels of course.

The list of 4000’s is impressive, but the skiing itself is fantastic as well.

This is a demanding tour, and the mountaineering element especially means we have a maximum ratio of 1:3.

This trip is at high altitude, and so conditions can remain good until late in the ski season. Generally April through to mid May is best.

All our trips are run on a guiding only basis – with clients paying expenses for themselves as the trip progresses.

This means that you only pay for what is strictly required, rather than an overestimation of expenses.

On your invoice you will receive an estimation of the expenses. Please refer to our prices and payments page for further details.

We do sometimes schedule trips, but generally this is a bespoke trip for a private group. You can contact us to find out more.

Day 0

Meeting your with your guide in the evening, kit check and preparation. Night in Chamonix.

Day 1

Travel to Zermatt in the early morning. Catch the Klein Matterhorn lift and climb the Briethon (4000m), ski to the Ayas refuge for the night.

Day 2

Ascent of Castor. After an early start to catch good conditions, we use crampons to climb the last section of this fantastic summit. Ski to the Quintino Sella refuge.

Day 3

Today we cover some distance passing Liskamm on our way to the Gneffeti or Mantova refuge. There is an opportunity to climb the Vincent Pyramid on the way.

Day 4

We are on the doorstep of the Monte Rosa group of 4000’s now, so so depending on weather and conditions we aim to climb the Parrotspitze and Punta Gnifetti. We then make the long ski descent to the Monta Rosa hut.

Day 5

There a few options from the Monta Rosa hut, the Stockhorn is a great summit above Zermatt, and gives a good long ski back into town before catching the train and then driving back to Chamonix.

Mellow laps through the trees with Rob and Louise today. So quiet - fresh tracks all day 👍

Superb weather and soft snow on the Vallee Blanche today. Even got some fresh tracks, although not shown on this video.
A pleasure to be skiing and guiding the white valley again 👍⛷

A bit wind blown up top but some pretty good snow lower down. Good fun being #skiguide for Rich and Andrew.

For the Chamonix folk: we're organising a ski touring trip this weekend (Saturday), probably heading to the Aravis. Keen to show people a different part of the range.
Message us through the usual channels for more details. Previous touring experience and a sense of humour a must!
