Weekend Guided Ski Touring Trips…

Weekend ski touring trips using high mountain huts – led by experienced IFMGA mountain guides. There are many different huts dotted around the Chamonix area and nearby that offer a great two day trip, with an overnight at the hut.

Weekend Ski Touring Trips - Prices & details:

The guiding price for up to six people, is £350/day with avalanche equipment included. Groups of four or less are transported from Chamonix free of charge also.

Please read through some of the ski tour options below. Our trips are priced on a guiding only basis, so you will need to cover our hut expenses on the trip. The guides hut expenses are split between the group.

Equipment:
You will need ski touring boots and skis, which can be hired in Chamonix. Our price includes your avalanche safety equipment: Transceiver, Shovel and probe, plus a harness if it’s a glacial tour.

You will need a rucksack, normally greater than 30ltr. Normal ski touring equipment such as warm clothes, waterproofs apply.

Why ski with Vertical Frontiers?

Skiing with a mountain guide allows you to ski good safe snow. Mountain guides can also work on glaciers (unlike ski instructors) so you can experience some of the best terrain the mountains have to offer. If you want a specific ski lesson then you should book an instructor, but if you can ski to the side of the piste and want to try some more challenging terrain, or your an experienced off piste skier who wants to explore thenIFMGA hiring a mountain guide is the thing to do.

We are passionate skiers and during the winter log a fair amount of time on skis, off the lifts, and ski touring as well. Skiing is our number one priority in the winter. The mountaineering gear gets put away until the summer as searching out the best conditions for the weather and clients is satisfying, and great fun! All our guides are fully qualified IFMGA mountain guides and all are english speaking. Most are British and are members of the British Mountain Guides Association.

We run these weekend trips for private groups, with the maximum ration typically being 1:6.

A typical weekend Itinerary would look like this:

Day 0

Arrive in Chamonix in the evening, overnight in hotel/B&B.

Day 1

We meet in the morning soon after breakfast to discuss the plan for the weekend. After sorting our equipment we travel to the road head or lift, depending on the tour. The rest of the day is specific to the tour, but generally we can ski to the hut, coffee and then do a short tour in the afternoon and/or some safety training.

Day 2

Up early for an uphill ski, col, ridge line or summit before skiing back to the hut for an early afternoon coffee. We then ski to the road head and transfer back to Chamonix for around 5.00pm. (The timings are flexible depending on your travel plans).

Mont Rogneux

This is a brilliant two day tour in Switzerland, approx 1.5hrs from Chamonix. It’s a good ski tour for novice and intermediate ski tourers alike. The track leads to the comfortable Brunet Refuge, which is comfortable and welcoming, with great food. This track takes us through the woods, and is fairly sheltered making it an easy hut approach in inclement weather.

On the second day we have plenty of options, depending on weather, ability and ambition. Mont Rogneux itself is a great ski with two main decent options. Some lead back to the hut, meaning we can leave things at the hut, and some go direct to the valley.

The season is December – March

Here’s an old blog post about skiing from the Brunet refuge

We have an open trip on the 14th & 15th January 2017the cost per person is £255 for the weekend, including travel from Chamonix, Guiding fees and avalanche safety equipment.

It does not include hut costs for you or the guide (split between the group), ski hire, rescue insurance and lift passes.
