Grand Paradiso Mountain Guide

Grand Paradiso guided mountaineering trip

Description:

A three day trip climbing some of the high peaks of the Mont Rosa massif.

The Grand Paradiso is the highest mountain solely in Italy, and is a fantastic introduction to alpine climbing, very suitable for beginners.

We have a tried and tested programme to give you good skills training and acclimatisation during the trip. We start off climbing from the skyway lift around the Torino hut area before moving over to the Grand Paradiso national park.

  1. Meet in Chamonix, gear check and briefing. Then through the Mont Blanc tunnel to the skyway lift which we use to access the glacier du Geant for some training and perhaps climb a small summit there. Night in the Torino hut, which is great for acclimatisation.

  2. The next morning we usually spend an hour or two out on the glacier, before descending the lift and driving around an hour to the trail head, followed by a two hour walk up to the Chabod refuge, in the heart of the Grand Paradiso national park. The hut is a great place to relax in the late afternoon, to take in the views and rest before the longer summit day.

  3. An early start for the Grand Paradiso itself, which is normally around seven to eight hours round trip. The summit scramble is quite exposed, but well protected and often the highlight of the climb. We stop for a drink and snacks at the hut on the way down, pick up any items we left there and then descend the hour and a half back to the car before the drive back to Chamonix.

Suitable for mountaineers with no prior experience of ice axes, crampons etc. We train you on essential techniques and gear during the trip.
