Crevasse Rescue Course

Learn the fundamentals of Crevasse Rescue with the expert guidance of an IFMGA Mountain Guide…

Travelling on glaciers on foot or ski can be both exhilarating and daunting. They provide some of the most spectacular terrain in the alps but demand a high level of respect.

Our crevasse rescue courses cover trip planning and prevention as well as the nitty gritty of hauling techniques. Prevention is key, not falling in a crevasse in the first place is the over riding priority!

During the course we focus on the fundamentals of rescue techniques, and allow enough time to practice. It is important to be practiced and slick at these rather than getting distracted by more complicated skills to early.

The one day crevasse rescue courses cover many aspects of crevasse rescue

You will need to back this knowledge up with some practice at home or in the garden. Being familiar with some knots and ropes will be a bonus, but is not a prerequisite for this course. We start at the absolute basics no matter what your previous experience level.

This course is available year round, for both skiers and boarders in the winter/spring and mountaineers in the summer. Please do contact us to book a private course.

After plenty of avalanche chat and multiple burial scenarios this morning... we went skiing.

A varied couple of days teaching avalanche awareness to ski tourers / split boarders around #chamonix.

And always good to finish the course with some untracked powder ❄️

Up (very) early for a ski tour in the fresh snow this morning.
Bucket loads of snow and superb skiing before any lifts opened. 50cm due at 2000m I think.

Skiing by head torch in a snow storm is a mini adventure in itself.

Another nice day ski touring around Combloux - acres of untracked snow on the summer meadows.

We need a bit more snow to pin the scrub down a bit, but it looks like that’s coming tomorrow 🤞❄️❄️

Great ski touring conditions in Chamonix and neighbouring areas at the moment.

Powder on a (very) firm base. And more due in the next few days as well.

I’ve been keeping track of my meters climbed this season, and yesterday ticked over the 40,000m mark. Looking forward to getting out guiding again today.
