Mont Buet stands towards the end of the Chamonix Aiguille Rouge chain, and looks out across the peaks of the range towards Mont Blanc.

Is a favourite peak for summer trekkers, many of whom will stay in the summer mountain refuge half way up the peak.

In winter there are a few options for ski-touring, you can access the peak from the lift systems at Flegere, normally via the Crouches-Berard tour. Or you can start right from the valley and avoid the lifts altogether, giving a great training route and challenge.

This is a perfect introduction to longer “speed tours” as it's at low altitude and non glacial and therefore not as committing as other tours. You'd still need to keep an eye on avalanche conditions of course, and start early both to avoid soft snow in the afternoon and the other skiers descending the valley from other tours in the area.

From the valley, it's around 20km round trip with  over 1800m of height gain. For this type of tour, you should be aiming for 500m'hr.

Required experience/skill level:

Intermediate - Advanced; As with any longer day tour, you need be able to safely ski potentially difficult snow on tired legs! You will need to have completed several tours of over 1000m before.
