After last weeks bouldering at Bonehill and Hound tor in my T-shirt it was a bit of a rude awakening to find myself in full winter thermals trying to find routes that were out of the wind at Tunhill on Friday. Duvet Jackets and thermos flasks were the order of the day.

Joe and I had a good time though, and we did some good warm up problems in the big boots to keep the feet warm, which was pretty good practice for Scotland this coming week.

We’d had enough after a couple of hours so headed back to Joe’s excellent little indoor bouldering wall to get a full pump with the winter training tools – fig fours. The wall is pretty steep (around 48 degrees according to joe) so when you uest the tools it feels like your on a horizontal roof the whole time. I’m hoping not to climb anything that steep in Scotland, because my forearms are destroyed in no time at all – I’ll stick to the vertical routes I think!
