It’s been consistently cold here in Chamonix for the past couple of weeks and although we’ve had little new snow recently the cold temperatures have kept the snow in good condition with some nice soft snow.

First time up on the Aiguille du Midi for us this season last Friday, and it was great to be up high again. The Vallee Blanche is pretty well filled in for the time of year. Some care required in a few spots, noticeably crossing into the Salle de Manger.

The ropes are now in place on the Aiguille du Midi arete, although not the “Zig Zag”. We wore crampons and plan to do so for the foreseeable. In fact, we used them all last winter and it’s certainly nicer than slipping around with a big drop nearby.

Here’s a couple of photos. Pretty cold to be standing around snapping pictures, but worth it!

We have a scheduled Vallee Blanche trip next Friday the 1st.
