Express Chamonix – Zermatt Haute Route
Description:
A four day trip traversing the classic Chamonix to Zermatt Haute Route.
The normal itinerary for the Haute route is six to seven days long. But if you’re feeling fit, and you’ve got some multi-day tours under your belt already then you could join us on this “Express Haute Route” in April.
This is a slight variation on our three day trip, to include the peak of Arolla – the Peigne. Most days involve 8 – 9 hours of skiing, often starting in the dark with head torches. The time pressures come from the snow heating in the afternoon, so teams must be prompt and stick to schedule.
-
Meet in Chamonix early and use the Grand Montet lift. Argentiere (Grand Montet) to Verbier (Mont Fort refuge). 973M of ascent, 18km. Around 5hrs. Time pressure to reach Verbier before the last lift
-
Mont Fort to Dix hut. 1663M ascent, 21km. Around 8 – 9 hrs. An early start required to skin across the Lac des Dix before the snow warms up
-
Dix hut over Peigne du Arolla to Vignettes or Bertol refuge depending on conditions.
-
To Zermatt! We then use a train or taxi service to return to Argentiere and pick up the cars.
Suitable for advanced Ski Tourers.
