It’s been a busy couple of months since coming back form the Scottish winter season, apologies for not updating the blog for a while but hopefully this one will bring it up to date.

Spring has been busy down in the South-West and we have been running climbing courses on Dartmoor, Alpine training weekends for aspiring Alpinists and a crevasse rescue workshop for members of the South Devon mountaineering club (see previous post).

The navigation courses have been ticking along as well, mostly bronze NNAS courses with several folk on the CCF trip to North Wales very close to the Silver award.

On a personal note, it’s been tricky to fit in much Rock Climbing due to a combination of weather and work, but I’ve managed to get out on Dartmoor bouldering a few times and had a nice sunny trip to Torbryan a week ago with Matt and John which was great. The running has been going well, and it’s easy to fit in a run whilst working away, especially up in the Brecon Beacons where I was based for three weeks doing some freelance leadership training for Outposts Ltd.

I managed to squeeze in a few races as well, a 17miler on the North Devon coastal path, a Dartmoor runners orienteering event and a local 5km park run.

But onto the main news story – Chamonix. Emma and I have moved out here for the season as I am moving onto the “Aspirant” stage of the British Mountain Guides scheme which requires me to work alongside another guide for a set number of days this season and next.

The diary is looking interesting for the summer, with various trips planned, especially into the Swiss mountains which aren’t too far away.

Back in Devon, Matt Knapp is busy with Vertical Frontiers wok. Plenty of weekends on Dartmoor, Cornwall and up to the sport climbs on Portland as well. He has however found the time for a trip to Chamonix to help me “settle in”!

So it’s business as usual on the Moor, keep an eye out for some updates to our Scottish Winter courses and don’t forget our Ama Dablam trip this October, we’re still looking for one or two people to join our small team on this impressive mountain.

Oh, and if you fancy some alpine climbing, you know who to call…
