The last few weeks have seen some mixed weather down on Dartmoor with sunny days climbing in a t-shirt to full on down parka hats and gloves. This week we had the pleasure of introducing the Croney family to climbing outdoors, these guys have some experience climbing on indoor walls they have also tackled some big multiday walks and summited Kilimanjaro, they are also on a mission to climb the Matterhorn in 2015, so they were all comfortable in the outdoors.
Our first day was spent down at the Dewerstone we spent the morning going over some of the basics and had a look at movement on real rock, everyone had the chance for a few climbs on a top rope getting used to climbing in their new big boots, then we moved on to the main face for an opportunity to climb the classic Mucky Gully, a great little climb and real challenge. We were so engrossed in our climbing that it was dark by the time Jo and Charlotte topped out, luckily I had packed a couple of extra head torches so we could find our way back to the cars.
The second day was looking like it was going to be a total wash out, we had a couple of options learn to lead indoors, or brave the elements and go for a scramble. Not to be put off by a little bit of rain Michael opted for the scrambling. It was a really windy day and we were a little bit battered by the elements but it was a real adventure and well worth a soaking. Much fun had by all.
